Lush Christmas 2017: Thundersnow Bath Bomb Review

Thundersnow was one of the bath bombs that really caught my eye when it first made it's appearance at the Lush Summit in February 2017. The initial reason was because of its beautiful look out of the water, as the mint choc-chip and bright blue swirls looked like Earth. Then, I found out that it had a similar scent to an After Eight chocolate and mint choc-chip ice cream. I have been in love with all mint scented products that Lush have released. Unfortunately, as I did not go to the Lush Summit and at the time, didn't know anyone that had gone, I was unable to get my hands on one of these beauties.

However, I was very pleased to see that Lush had released Thundersnow as a Christmas exclusive. This was one of the first Christmas products I picked up when I went to my local store, Lush Spa Liverpool.

The first scent ingredient in the mix of Thundersnow is cocoa absolute. This adds a lovely dark chocolatey scent to the bath bomb, whilst being subtle and creamy enough to not overpower any other scent in the mix. Cocoa absolute is known for its aphrodisiac properties as for many people, the scent is a calming one that is associated with stress relief, easing depression and sadness and the feeling of your mood being uplifted.

As well as this, peppermint oil is in the mix and compliments the cocoa absolute, like an After Eight. Although not the most powerful of the two scents, peppermint oil contains menthol which can create a cooling sensation on the skin as it stimulates blood vessels, and I would say I detected a slight cooling sensation on my skin, especially once I exited the bath (more of a cooling sensation than usual once stepping out of the bath). Because of this cooling sensation and the association of mint for some people (mint toothpaste, breath mints, etc.), peppermint is a brilliant at awakening you in the morning and is also great for cooling you on hot summer days.

Another key ingredient in the mix is popping candy. This creates a lovely fire-crackling noise in the bath. All though I think the inclusion of this in the mix has been the reason so many people were having dud bath bombs that sink. If you have ever held this bath bomb and compare it to another bath bomb, it is a lot heavier. And this can be seen in the YouTube video that I have attached; you can see that the bath bomb does sink and when I show the bath bomb in my hand, it is very dense.

This is one of the only things that I don't really like about the bath bomb. I would prefer for there to be less popping candy; this would mean that the bath bomb would float and produce more of a show in the tub. However, with the example I have shown, I managed to get a fair bit of a show. Yet, this was one of the few Thundersnows that I had and this was the only one that did not sink as soon as it his the water.

Although I had this issue, I really loved this bath bomb as the scent was beautiful and I believe that the design of this was lovely and eye catching.

In the water (when the bath bomb would float), it created lovely blue, green and white swirls in the bath of creamy bubbles. Once the bath bomb had fizzed away, it turned the water a beautiful blue-turquoise colour. The scent was evident in the bath water for the entirety of the bath and could also be detected in the bathroom about an hour or two after the water had drained.

Once exiting the bath, my skin felt wonderfully moisturised and refreshed.

I hope Thundersnow comes back Christmas 2018, but with less popping candy. However, until then, I will enjoy the ones I have stores. I will probably keep them back until the the weather gets a bit warmer; just like what I did with my Christingle Body Conditioner, as the cooling sensation of mint on sunburnt skin is lovely!
